US Open 2019 First Round Picks, RESULTS
Top Half: 22 Wins; 9 Losses; one match picked was cancelled and replaced with a different player.
Bottom Half: 25 Wins; 7 Losses
Svitolina E. (5) vs. [Williams V.] -- Venus played an exceptional first round match and needs to keep the same energy level because Svitolina is one of the most technically astute players on the tour.
[Peterson R.] vs. Yastremska D. (32) -- An upset special for a player who has drawn so many bad matchups. This is Peterson's chance to climb in the rankings.
[Kenin S.] (20) vs. Siegemund L. -- Two players who let the emotions fly. Edge to Kenin whose power should neutralize Siegmund's all-around game.
Zhu L. vs. [Keys M.] (10) -- Madison needs to remain focused.
[Konta J. ](16) vs. Gasparyan M. -- Konta is looking to regain her form and status.
[Alexandrova E.] vs. Zhang S. (33) -- A true toss-up. Edge to Alexandrova because of recent win against Zhang.
Jabeur O. vs. [Sasnovich A.] -- Both playing with house money and evenly matched. First meeting.
Bolkvadze M. (Q) vs. [Pliskova Ka.] (3) -- Not one to have major letdowns.
[Williams S.] (8) vs. McNally C. (WC) -- Serena is playing at that next level. Keep emotions out of it if crowd starts cheering for young American.
Muchova K. vs. [Hsieh S-W.] (29) -- Tough matchup for both. Muchova won only meeting in February but Hsieh has hit her stride.
[Martic P.] (22) vs. Bogdan A. -- Martic has been playing great tennis.
Swiatek I. vs. [Sevastova A.] (12) -- Sevastova remains focused and tends to not lose when favored.
[Mladenovic K.] vs. Ferro F. -- Hard to see Mladenovic losing after pulling off that upset of Kerber.
Van Uytvanck A. vs. [Wang Q.] (18) -- Not a good matchup for Wang as she's lost their only meeting. It's a question of whether recent play schedule has her fatigued or motivated.
Sakkari M. (30) vs. [Peng S.] (Q) -- Great to see Peng back from a string of injuries. Sakkari is figuratively occupying the space she vacated. Different playing styles and it's a question whether Peng's counterpunch style leads to enough errors from Sakkari.
Davis L. vs. [Barty A.] (2) -- Davis is tough and fights all the way through. So does Barty and she goes deep in most tournaments she enters.
