[Osaka N.] (1) vs. Gauff C. (WC) -- This is a toss-up only because Osaka has peaks and valleys whereas Gauff has shown a steady level of exceptional play. Osaka's highest level, especially her serve will be the determining factor because Gauff's serve tends to level off in the second set.
Kontaveit A. (21) vs. [Bencic B.] (13) -- Kontaveit has a steady baseline game that plays into Bencic's strengths.
[Putintseva Y.] vs. Vekic D. (23) -- Putintseva pulled off a nice upset last round and is primed to challenge Vekic. Vekic has won all three prior meetings.
Goerges J. (26) vs. [Bertens K.] (7) -- Excellent matchup that could go either way. Go with Bertens because of recent upswing.
[Townsend T.] (Q) -- Cirstea S. -- Townsend can return to her regular game and not rely as much on serve and volley. She has advantage on speed and strength.
[Wozniacki C.] (19) vs. Andreescu B. V. (15) -- Wozniacki has not played her best tennis this year - so much going on in her life. I'm taking a leap that she's back and focused. Still look for Andreescu to throw everything at her.
[Ahn K.] (WC) vs. Ostapenko J. -- Upset special. Ahn has to stay in the points and let Ostapenko make errors in trying to hit winners.
[Mertens E.] (25) vs. Petkovic A. -- Mertens is another "pro" who is not likely to be victim to an upset. (Redux) For Petkovic, continued mastery over Kvitova has to be a confidence booster that gives her a puncher's chance.
